ইংরেজি ভাষায় কোনো জিনিসের সাধারণ অবস্থা ও চরম অবস্থা বোঝানোর জন্য ভিন্ন ভিন্ন শব্দ ব্যবহার করা হয়। সঠিক ও অর্থপূর্ণ ইংরেজি ভাষা ব্যবহারে পারদর্শিতা অর্জন করতে হলে বাক্যে এ শব্দগুলোর প্রয়োগ জানা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আজ আমরা সাধারণ ও চরম অবস্থা নির্দেশক কিছু ইংরেজি শব্দ বাক্যে যেভাবে ব্যবহার হয় তা জানব।
Normal: Hot- I always like hot coffee.
আমি সবসময় গরম কফি পছন্দ করি।
Extreme: Boiling- The water is boiling, so don’t put your hand into it.
পানিটা ফুটন্ত, তাই এর ভেতর হাত দিয়ো না।
Normal: Cold- Please take your sweater with you because it is cold outside.
দয়া করে তোমার সঙ্গে তোমার সোয়েটারটা নিয়ে নাও কারণ বাইরে ঠান্ডা।
Extreme: Freezing- I don’t want to go outside because it is freezing.
আমি বাইরে যেতে চাই না কারণ প্রচন্ড ঠান্ডা।
Normal: Good- You should watch the movie because it is good.
তোমার ছায়াছবিটা দেখা উচিত কারণ এটা ভালো।
Extreme: Brilliant- Alex is not only brilliant but also a good human being.
অ্যালেক্স শুধু মেধাবীই নয় একজন ভালো মানুষও বটে।
Normal: Big- Jim pinned up the notice on the big board.
জিম বড় বোর্ডে নোটিসটা পিন দিয়ে আটকে দিল।
Extreme: Gigantic- We entered a gigantic hall.
আমরা একটা বৃহদাকার হলে প্রবেশ করলাম।
Normal: Bad- Why are you in such a bad mood?
তুমি এমন খারাপ মেজাজে আছো কেন?
Extreme: Awful- The movie was awful.
ছায়াছবিটা অত্যন্ত খারাপ ছিল।
Normal: Dirty- Why have you kept your room so dirty?
তুমি তোমার রুম এত অপরিচ্ছন্ন রেখেছ কেন?
Extreme: Filthy- The place was so filthy that we couldn’t stand there.
জায়গাটা এত নোংরা ছিল যে আমরা সেখানে দাঁড়াতে পারলাম না।
Normal: Tired- I can’t go with you because I am so tired.
আমি তোমার সঙ্গে যেতে পারব না কারণ আমি খুব ক্লান্ত।
Extreme: Exhausted- We all were exhausted after the whole day’s hard work.
সারা দিনের কঠোর পরিশ্রমের পর আমরা সবাই প্রচ- ক্লান্ত ছিলাম।
Normal: Clean- I always keep my room clean.
আমি সবসময় আমার রুম পরিষ্কার রাখি।
Extreme: Spotless- Her character is spotless.
তার চরিত্র নিষ্কলুষ।
Normal: Beautiful- We were enjoying the beautiful sceneries of the mountain.
আমরা পর্বতের সুন্দর দৃশ্যাবলি উপভোগ করছিলাম।
Extreme: Gorgeous- The dress was so gorgeous that everyone was looking at that.
পোশাকটা এত চমৎকার ছিল যে সবাই সেটার দিকে তাকিয়েছিল।
Normal: Interesting- The book is interesting; you should read it.
বইটি মজাদার; তোমার এটা পড়া উচিত।
Extreme: Fascinating- The blue colour of the sari was so fascinating.
শাড়িটার নীল রংটা খুব আকর্ষণীয় ছিল।
