যদি তুমি আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করতে চাও, সোজাসুজি জিজ্ঞেস করো; অহেতুক সময় নষ্ট করো না।
b. When I asked George whether he knew who had taken the files from my desk, he started beating around the bush and refused to give me a direct answer
যদিও জর্জ জানতো সে আমার ডেস্ক থেকে ফাইল নিয়েছে তবু যখন আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম সে অহেতুক সময় নষ্ট করল এবং সোজাসাপ্টা কোনো উত্তর দিতে অস্বীকার করল।
c. Don’t beat around the bush and tell me frankly what you think of my proposition.
অহেতুক সময় নষ্ট করো না এবং আমার অবস্থান সম্পর্কে তোমার কী মনে হয় অকপটে বলো।
2. Third times a charm
তৃতীয়বারে সফল হওয়া, দান দান তিন দান।

আশা করছি সে আবারও চেষ্টা করবে না।
হয়তো এবার সে ভাগ্যবান হবে। যাই বলো না কেন, দান দান তিন দান।
b. After failing the subject repeatedly, a third time’s attempt turned out as a charm for John
বিষয়টিতে বারবার অকৃতকার্য হওয়ার পর তৃতীয়বারের চেষ্টায় ভাগ্য সহায় হলো।
c. After losing their first and second ODI series, England is still hopeful because the third time could be a charm for them.
প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় একদিনের আন্তর্জাতিক সিরিজে পরাজয়ের পরও ইংল্যান্ড আশাবাদী কারণ দান দান তিনদানে ভাগ্য তাদের সহায় হতে পারে।
3. Down to the wire
শেষ সময় পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করা, চূড়ান্ত অবস্থায় পৌঁছে যাওয়া।

আমি গতকাল দাওয়াতে গেলাম এবং ভুলে গিয়েছিলাম যে, আগামীকাল আমার প্রবন্ধ জমা দেওয়ার কথা। এখন আমি চূড়ান্ত অবস্থায় পৌঁছে গেছি এবং কাজটি শেষ করতে আমাকে সারারাত পড়াশোনা করতে হবে।
b. They went down to the wire and it was impossible to tell who would win till the very last moment
তারা তাদের শেষ সীমায় পৌঁছে গেছে এবং শেষ মুহূর্তে কে জিতবে তা বলা অসম্ভব।
c. Since both the candidates are equally popular, this year’s election looks to be going down to the wire.
যেহেতু উভয় প্রার্থী সমান জনপ্রিয় তাই মনে হচ্ছে এবারের নির্বাচন চূড়ান্ত পর্যায়ে পৌঁছে যাবে।
